In November 2024, Henrik Josefsson participated in a podcast in Miljö och Juridiken discussing how the objectives and exemptions prescribed by the EU Water Framework Directive impact the conditions for hydropower permit reviews. In the conversation Henrik highlighted project results regarding the stakeholder collaboration process as part of the overall administrative process. September 2024, Peter M. Rudberg presented at the seminar Environmental research for sustainable hydropower that was held in Linköping, Sweden. The presentation provided results from the analysis – in terms of cooperation and agreement – of the initial stakeholder collaborations of the Swedish National Plan for Modern Environmental Provisions for Hydropower. In August 2024, Henrik Josefsson presented at the SusHydro Project Conference – Regoverning the Existing Hydropower System: Integrating ecological, economic and societal aspects of sustainability. Title of the presentation was “Legal Challenges in Collaborative Processes Within the Swedish National Plan for Hydropower” The presentation reflected on the preliminary results from the analysis – in terms of cooperation and agreement – regarding what legal challenges in the general review process that the initial stakeholder collaborations do not seem to solve and therefore will be left to the courts when they review the permits.
In June 2024, Peter M. Rudberg presented to the steering group of Energiforsk’s environmental research program of hydropower. Energiforsk is a research oriented organization owned by the industry association of energy companies in Sweden. The presentation focused on preliminary results from the analysis – in terms of cooperation and agreement – of the initial stakeholder collaborations of the Swedish National Plan for Modern Environmental Provisions for Hydropower.
In May 2024, Peter M. Rudberg hosted the the second reference group meeting, with 10 reference group members. In the meeting, the reference group members were presented, and provided feedback on, the preliminary analysis – in terms of cooperation and agreement – of the initial stakeholder collaborations of the Swedish National Plan for Modern Environmental Provisions for Hydropower.
In April 2024, Peter M. Rudberg presented at the Free Flow conference in Groningen, The Netherlands. The presentation provided an update of the implementation of the Swedish National Plan for Modern Environmental Provisions for Hydropower and discussed the functioning of the collaboration process as part of the hydropower permit review. In February 2024, Annika Nilsson presented the ACDC project under the title: “Samverkan, målkonfikter och värderingar i modernisering av vattenkraftens reglering”, at the Humanities Theatre at Uppsala University. Special focus in the presentation and discussion was directed to the collaborative process as a research object, but also the collaborative co-creation method of the research project. The presentation formed part of a thematic discussion under the research theme of Welfare, Health and Wellbeing of the Uppsala University Center for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS). In this annual event new and established collaboration partners join for a day of discussion of multidisciplinary research and how this can meet the needs of authorities, organisations and businesses in Sweden (for more information see https://www.crs.uu.se/evenemang/samverkansdagar/).
In October 2023, Annika Nilsson presented the ACDC project under the title “Addressing Complexity Despite Conflicting Interests: the interrelation between stakeholder collaborative processes and court proceedings in hydropower permit reviews” at the CRS annual Researchers Meeting on Religion and Society Research, at the old Uppsala University Building, as part of the center’s ongoing discussions of multidisciplinary research.
In September 2023, the ACDC hydro project hosted the first hybrid reference group meeting, with 15 reference group members, in Uppsala. The seminar was hosted by Annika Nilsson and included a presentation by Jan Darpö, on Natura 2000, and Peter M. Rudberg, on research approach, followed by valuable discussions and feedback from the reference group members. The presentation by Jan Darpö (in Swedish) on Natura 2000, can be viewed online.
In June 2023, the ACDC hydro project hosted a workshop, led by Peter M. Rudberg and with the participation of Pedro Brufao, at the Iberian Conference on River Restoration that compared and contrasted the experiences of different EU countries, including Spain, Sweden and Finland, of addressing complexity despite conflicting interests in the governance and management of hydropower production and river restoration.
